Lifetime Achievement Award
Earlier this Summer, the Guild of Food Writers announced the winners of their much coveted Awards, recognised to be the Oscars of the food world and a true honour. After many awards for different categories the Guild President, Jane Suthering, announced a Lifetime Achievement Award was being given to Mary for her work as a celebrated cookery writer. Mary has been writing for over 40 years, has written over 60 books and sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Quite an achievement! Mary joins a handful of other Guild's Life Members who include Egon Ronay and Marguerite Patten.Lucy Young, Mary’s assistant for nearly 20 years, was told in advance of the award. "The hardest part was keeping it a secret from Mary. I was the only one who knew and it was a complete shock for Mary. To be honoured in such a way by The Guild is a huge accolade and no one deserves it more than Mary. All her family, friends and working colleagues are overjoyed at the news."
